This is the place where you can personalize your profile!
But, how?
By moving, adding and personalizing widgets.
You can drag and drop to rearrange.
You can edit widgets to customize them.
The bottom has widgets you can add!
Some widgets you can only access when you get a premium membership.
Some widgets have options that are only available when you get a premium membership.
We've split the page into zones!
Certain widgets can only be added to certain zones.
"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.
Don't forget, restraints can bring out the creativity in you!
Now go forth and astound us all with your devious profiles!
I'm thinking specifically about comic books and which one people care about more.
Would you rather have to wait three to six months between an issue of your favorite comic, but know that the execution is going to over-the-top amazing? Or would you rather just get that next issue next month, even if it means that it's not going to look as good? I have to wonder which of these approaches is better rewarded in our modern comics field.
NONPLAYER by Nate Simpson is what got me thinking about this. It's pretty obvious to me that this book is not going to come out in any sort of regular interval. Chances are, we'll see two more issues in 2011 (even though it just debuted on the 6th of April), maybe a third if we're lucky. But that book, like BATTLE CHASERS before it, each issue will very likely be a "tentpole release". People will buy it solely because it looks amazing and pushes the envelope of what the medium can look like.
On the other hand, it's also very easy to forget a book that comes out infrequently. This is a complaint I hear about Jeff Smith's RASL (a book totally worth buying).
The short answer for the professional of course is going to be "both". Do the best page you can do per day, call it good, and try to make the next one better. I have this idea in my head for returning to producing pages that goes along the lines of "give yourself four hours, draw your page as well as you can, and move on." Then I see Nonplayer and think "holy crap-- if you're going to draw, get it right."
Ultimately, if I spend as much time actually producing artwork as I do thinking about it, I'd have something to show for it.
I love to write, draw, and design, and now I do those things professionally.
